M.O Studio, Mandarin Oriental
Another stop on the city’s art circuit
A hotel becomes more interesting when there is a reason to visit beyond the rooms. At Mandarin Oriental, Marrakech, M.O Studio provides that invitation through a changing programme focused on Moroccan and African contemporary art.
A former warehouse has been reworked as an exhibition space, retaining its industrial volume while introducing a glass roof. The architecture offers artists a generous setting, and the programme is developed with Galerie 208 and its founder Patricia Chicheportiche. During 1-54, the studio participates in the fair’s VIP programme; access and the current exhibition should be checked separately from tickets to the main fair.
There is a craft connection to explore in the resort’s boutique, too. A documented collaboration with Chabi Chic produced bespoke stoneware for the hotel’s tenth anniversary in 2025. It is a useful example of the relationship between a hotel and local design, although that particular edition should be treated as an archive reference until availability is confirmed.
We would visit with the art programme as the starting point, then look at how the wider property makes space for objects and makers. The strongest story here is about the creative exchange a hotel can support—and the work that deserves attention beyond its familiar walls.
